چکیده

Intercropping of silage maize (Zea mays L.) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa is not a common practice because generally reduces grain biomass yield. The objective this research was to evaluate the productivity profitability maize–alfalfa intercropping, with goal establish increase in first year production. experiment conducted Fargo Prosper, ND, USA, 2014–2017. design randomized complete block four replicates split-plot arrangement. main plot had two row-spacing treatments (RS), 61 76 cm, respectively. Treatments subplot were: (1) monoculture, (2) intercropped alfalfa, (3) + prohexadione-calcium (PHX), (4) spring-seeded following (simulating maize–spring-seeded crop sequence). Both were seeded same day May 2014 at both locations. Prohexadione-calcium, growth regulator reduce internode length avoid etiolation seedlings, did improve plant survival. Averaged across locations, RS have an effect on yield forage Alfalfa established intercropping almost double compared maize. Considering two-year system, higher net returns than silage-maize followed by sequence. This system has potential get more growers rotation skipping typical low establishment year.

Synthesis of microbial protein in ruminally cannulated cows fed alfalfa silage, alfalfa hay, or corn silage.

Six ruminally cannulated cows were used in an experiment with a 3 x 3 Latin square design. Three all forage diets-alfalfa silage, alfalfa hay, or corn silage plus 2.2% urea (DM basis)-were fed for ad libitum intake four times daily. The microbial protein marker 15NH3 and the liquid marker Cr-EDTA were infused continuously into the rumen for 72 and 48 h, respectively; the solid marker, Yb-labele...

Maize silage for dairy cows

This paper reviews the use of maize silage in pastoral dairying systems in New Zealand. The evolution of dairying systems to make profitable use of maize silage and other supplementary feeds has occurred during the last decade in conjunction with an increased use of maize silage. When used within recommended levels of feeding, maize silage provides a low cost source of starch and fibre which co...

Alfalfa Silage Versus Red Clover Silage or a Mixture of Alfalfa and Red Clover Silage as the Sole Forage for Lactating Dairy Cows

Introduction The large proportion of CP in alfalfa silage (AS) that is present as NPN substantially reduces the efficiency of protein utilization by lactating dairy cows (Nagel and Broderick, 1992). Red clover silage (RCS) typically has a much lower content of NPN than AS (Albrecht and Muck, 1991). In a previous feeding study (Broderick and Sterrenburg, 1996 USDFRC Res. Sum.), we found that DMI...

Biogas Production from Maize Grains and Maize Silage

The main objective of this work was anaerobic digestion of maize grains and maize silage and biogas production from these crops. Maize grains were treated using one-stage and two-stage anaerobic techniques; using hydrolysis and acidification as the first stage and methanogenesis as the second stage. Processing nonacidified maize grains in an anaerobic reactor is more stable, though the anaerobi...
